bawdseyebeach

Taken at East Beach earlier in the summer by Linda West, this photo shows a block of indurated Red Crag basement bed fallen onto the London Clay beach platform. There are numerous small phosphatic nodules (coprolites), and comminuted shell material. Larger constituents include boxstones, a septarian nodule and a piece of ?whalebone. We are looking down on a piece of preserved bedding plane.

orfordcrag

A recent visit to the Coralline Crag pit behind Orford Castle showed exposures of the 'Rock Bed' revealed by this summer's lack of vegetation. This is a good opportunity to visit this Coralline Crag on public land.

sizewell

A recent visit to Leiston provided this view of the new Sizewell C railway, looking inland from the footpath to the Abbey. The cutting is in Norwich Crag sands -  some cross-bedding was visible on the right side. Futher inland the railway is cut through boulder clay (till).
